MoviePass Is Cutting Its Prices Again

From the very second MoviePass cut down its monthly subscription rate to $9.95, the company has been a huge topic of conversation among the movie-going community. Theaters argue that MoviePass is taking away from the theater-going experience, while others argue that MoviePass can't sustain itself based on its business model. Regardless, MoviePass has not slowed down, and if critics were concerned before, they must be flabberghasted right now. MoviePass has once again lowered its subscription rate in a limited time offer of $7.95 a month, plus a free subscription to the Fandor streaming service.

MoviePass has announced a new limited time offer of $7.95 a month to see one movie a week for its consumers. MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe told The Hollywood Reporter that they haven't decided when the offer will expire (which seems a bit underhanded to me) and that they are "constantly experimenting" and "having fun." The limited offer comes with a $19.95 "processing fee" that brings the one-year total to $115.35, which customers must pay for up front. Essentially, you are paying for the whole year, as opposed to the month by month basis of a typical MoviePass offer.

In addition to the cheaper rate, the offer also includes a one-year subscription to the streaming service Fandor. As opposed to Netflix or Hulu, which take a broader approach to what movies they offer, Fandor's niche is that its library is full of indie movies. This includes foreign language films, so this service is really more for hardcore film buffs. Jared Leto is Fandor's chief creative officer, so, you get the idea.

This announcement comes on the heels of MoviePass cancelling the subscriptions of several customers who were accused of abusing the service. The cancellations happened to customers who used MoviePass to pay down the cost of seeing Fathom Events or Imax content, which is against the terms of the service of use. Some of these users took to the internet to complain and claimed their accounts were expelled because they were seeing too many movies.

MoviePass recently reached two million subscribers and one would wager that this new promo will attract even more customers to the platform. However, this does raise a genuine question of how MoviePass can sustain itself when it is responsible for 5% of the national box office, according to the company. Some believe that MoviePass will eventually begin selling customer data to make up the difference on the money it loses on customers who use the service too much. MoviePass continues to be a major topic of conversation, and we'll be keeping a close eye on the company to see how it continues to develop. One Change John Boyega Is Making For Star Wars Episode IX

It hasn't even been two and a half years since the Star Wars film franchise relaunched in 2015 with The Force Awakens, but already our gazes are turned to Episode IX, the conclusion of the current trilogy. With The Last Jedi having only come out four months ago and Solo: A Star Wars Story arriving later this month, it will be a while until we start learning specific plot details about Episode IX. However, John Boyega has revealed that the next time we see Finn back on the big screen, he'll be rocking a longer hairdo. As Boyega put it:

I can't wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why.

Having recently finished promoting his latest movie, Pacific Rim Uprising, John Boyega is preparing for the Star Wars: Episode IX shoot in July. We knew that preparation would include bulking up, but as Boyega mentioned while speaking with Yahoo, he'll also be growing out his hair, meaning we're done with the short trim he had in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. This suggests that unlike The Last Jedi, which began only moments after The Force Awakens ended, a significant amount of time will be passed when Episode IX begins. It could just be a few months, although I'm hoping there will be at least a few years of distance between The Last Jedi and Episode IX, thus allowing Finn and the other main characters to have further developed.

At the end of The Last Jedi, most of The Resistance had been wiped out by The First Order, but thanks to Luke Skywalker distracting Kylo Ren, the remaining survivors were able to escape Crait aboard the Millennium Falcon. Finn nearly wasn't part of that group, as he tried to take out The First Order's giant cannon in a suicide run, only to be stopped by Rose Tico, who wisely pointed out that they won't win this war fighting what they hate, but saving what they love. Hopefully Finn will continue heeding these words as The Resistance slowly builds back its numbers and starts taking the fight to The First Order again. Whatever is in store for out heroes in Episode IX, the long hair will help with distinguishing the older and more experienced Finn from who we've watched over the last two main Star Wars movies.

Men In Black International continues many traditions of the original Men In Black trilogy from neuralyzers, to the cameo from Frank The Pug but one of the legitimate highlights is revealing celebrities who are actually extraterrestrials. Danny DeVito, Steven Spielberg, Sylvester Stallone, Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, Bill Gates, Lady Gaga and more have been outed by previous chapters in the franchise, and the F. Gary Gray film adds a few additional names to that list: including Donald Glover, Elon Musk, and Ariana Grande.

I had this in mind earlier this month when I had the pleasure of sitting down with the stars of Men In Black International during the movies London press junket, and it led to a question: who among their past collaborators do they think could possibly be an alien? It got some fun responses from Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Kumail Nanjiani, and you can watch them in the video embed below!

As has been noted a lot in the run-up to the release of Men In Black International, this is the second time that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have collaborated after the hit 2017 blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok and the first name mentioned in that conversation was the ringleader of that particular circus: Taika Waititi. In defense of the choice, the actor/writer/director does certainly have an eccentric sense of style, and a wonderfully weird sense of humor. Would anyone really be entirely shocked if he was just a rock creature like Korg hiding out on Earth in a human costume?

Kumail Nanjiani didnt even leave the cast of Men In Black International for his choice, as he namedropped a co-star who, at the time, was sitting approximately 100 feet away from him in another hotel room. Of course, Chris Hemsworth is another good choice, as theres something unearthly about his dramatic talent, comedic timing, and effortless charisma being brought together inside such a handsome package. And when I relayed the information to Hemsworth, he didnt seem to object.

For her choice, Tessa Thompson referenced her role on the hit HBO series Westworld and highlighted the tremendous talent of Evan Rachel Wood. The actress most certainly has an impressive track record, including her Emmy-nominated work on the sci-fi/western series, and its even more impressive when you remember that shes been professionally performing for more than half of her young life. Otherworldly is a nice word to describe it.
