Wonder Woman 1984 Shows Its First Footage At San Diego Comic-Con
Right now, the DC Extended Universe has three upcoming films on its slate... and the longest wait we have in front of us is for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984. The film only started production a few weeks ago, and it won't actually be out until November 2019. That, however, didn't stop the studio from delivering an extra special preview of the blockbuster earlier today during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
While the movie is very much still in its earliest days, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins delivered a real treat this morning for hardcore fans, showing off the first ever Wonder Woman 1984 footage in the San Diego Convention Center's Hall H. There wasn't a lot, the movie only showcasing a brief snippet from one scene, but it immediately gave us a surprising sense of what to expect from the upcoming movie.
Without wasting any time, the footage immediately jumped into an intense action sequence set inside of a shopping mall (this is the 1980s after all). Two men with guns are terrorizing the second floor of the building, but Wonder Woman is on the scene to stop them. She leaps from the first floor over the second floor railing - but before she can start kicking ass, she has a quick mission. A little girl in glasses appears, shocked by Diana's appearance and whispering, "Oh my gosh," and the superhero quickly acts to help her. Specifically, she grabs her and slides her across the floor until she is stopped by a giant teddy bear that is sitting in the hallway.
With civilians safe, Wonder Woman then focuses her attention on the bad guys. Because they are just a couple of schmucks holding guns, they are truly no match for her, and she quickly stars smacking them around. The men fall to the floor, but Diana isn't done with them. She whips out her lasso of truth, wrangles both of them, and then once again dives over the second floor railing, with the two men dragged behind her. Then, after a quick Wonder Woman 1984 title card, there was an extended shot of the hero running through the streets at extreme speed.
Obviously this was only a very quick taste of what Wonder Woman 1984 had to offer, but it did give us some interesting information about what to expect. Specifically, the thing that stood out most was simply the incredible amount of color at play. Not only are the environments much brighter than what we saw in World War I-era Europe, but Wonder Woman's costume also appears to be much more vibrant. On the surface, it definitely appears to be indicative of the tonal shift that the DC Extended Universe has been working on for the last couple of years.
This Wonder Woman 1984 Comic-Con footage will sadly not be officially released, but the good news is that fans can still enjoy both the Shazam and Aquaman trailers that have been posted online. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for a more extended look at Patty Jenkins' new movie, but for right now we are definitely counting down the days until November 1, 2019.
